Around the World

Here's a picture before the quilt was put together. Around the World is a traditional Amish pattern. I love mixing traditional patterns with contemporary fabrics. The Amish don't use patterned fabric, only plain. As you can see, these fabrics are anything but plain. It took me almost an entire weekend to pick out the 12 fabrics used, and less than a day to piece the top. Another day to get it together and bound. I am extremely pleased with this quilt.

I've been threading machines that go back to the 1940's and it's always the exact same way, so I would figure out how to do a modern machine and then try and duplicate that on your machine.

It took way less than a yard of each fabric for this quilt. The problem is, you don't want to run out before you finish so you always need to buy more than you need.

Besides, collecting fabric is fun. An easy way to start quilting is just to buy fat quarters of fabric you like, then put it together randomly. That's how I made my first quilt and it is stil one of my favorites.
